사무엘상 9장

사울이 사무엘을 만나다

9:1 베냐민 지파에 기스라고 하는 유력한 사람이 있었다 그의 아버지는 아비엘이고, 할아버지는 스롤이고, 그 윗대는 베고랏이고, 그 윗대는 아비아인데, 베냐민 사람이다

( There was a Benjamite, a man of standing, whose name was Kish son of Abiel, the son of Zeror, the son of Becorath, the son of Aphiah of Benjamin.)

9:2 그에게는 사울이라고 하는 아들이 있었는데, 잘생긴 젊은이였다 이스라엘 사람들 가운데 그보다 더 잘생긴 사람이 없었고, 키도 보통 사람들보다 어깨 위만큼은 더 컸다

( He had a son named Saul, an impressive young man without equal among the Israelites--a head taller than any of the others.)

9:3 그런데 사울의 아버지 기스는 자기가 기르던 암나귀들 가운데서 몇 마리를 잃고서, 자기 아들 사울에게, 종을 하나 데리고 가서 암나귀들을 찾아 보라고 말하였다

( Now the donkeys belonging to Saul's father Kish were lost, and Kish said to his son Saul, "Take one of the servants with you and go and look for the donkeys.")

9:4 사울은 종을 데리고 에브라임 산간지역과 살리사 지방으로 두루 다녀 보았으나, 찾지 못하였다 사알림 지방까지 가서 두루 다녀 보았으나 거기에도 없었다 베냐민 지방도 다녀 보았으나 거기에서도 찾지 못하였다

( So he passed through the hill country of Ephraim and through the area around Shalisha, but they did not find them. They went on into the district of Shaalim, but the donkeys were not there. Then he passed through the territory of Benjamin, but they did not find them.)

9:5 그들이 숩 지방으로 들어섰을 때에, 사울이 자기가 데리고 다니던 종에게 말하였다 "그만 돌아가자 아버지께서 암나귀들보다 오히려 우리 걱정을 하시겠다"

( When they reached the district of Zuph, Saul said to the servant who was with him, "Come, let's go back, or my father will stop thinking about the donkeys and start worrying about us.")

9:6 그러자 그 종이 그에게 말하였다 "보십시오, 이 성읍에는 하나님의 사람이 한 분 계시는데, 존경받는 분이십니다 그가 말하는 것은 모두 틀림없이 이루어진다고 합니다 그러니 이제 그리로 가 보시는 것이 어떨는지요? 혹시 그가 우리에게, 우리가 가야 할 길을 알려 줄지도 모릅니다"

( But the servant replied, "Look, in this town there is a man of God; he is highly respected, and everything he says comes true. Let's go there now. Perhaps he will tell us what way to take.")

9:7 사울이 종에게 말하였다 "그래, 한번 가 보자 그런데 우리가 그분에게 무엇을 좀 가지고 가야겠는데, 우리 주머니에는 빵 하나도 남아 있지 않으니, 하나님의 사람에게 드릴 예물이 없구나 우리에게 뭐 남아 있는 것이 좀 있느냐?"

( Saul said to his servant, "If we go, what can we give the man? The food in our sacks is gone. We have no gift to take to the man of God. What do we have?")

9:8 종이 다시 사울에게 대답하였다 "아, 나에게 은전 한 푼이 있습니다 이것을 하나님의 사람에게 드리고, 우리가 갈 길을 가르쳐 달라고 하겠습니다"

( The servant answered him again. "Look," he said, "I have a quarter of a shekel of silver. I will give it to the man of God so that he will tell us what way to take.")

9:9 （옛적에 이스라엘에서 사람들이 하나님께 물으려고 할 때에는, 선견자에게 가자고 말하였다 오늘날 우리가 '예언자'라고 하는 이들을 옛적에는 '선견자'라고 불렀다）

( (Formerly in Israel, if a man went to inquire of God, he would say, "Come, let us go to the seer," because the prophet of today used to be called a seer.))

9:10 사울이 종에게 말하였다 "좋은 생각이다 어서 가자!" 그리하여 그들은 하나님의 사람이 있는 성읍으로 갔다

( "Good," Saul said to his servant. "Come, let's go." So they set out for the town where the man of God was.)

9:11 그들은, 성읍으로 가는 비탈길로 올라가다가, 물 길러 내려오는 처녀들을 만나 "선견자께서 성읍에 계십니까?" 하고 물었다

( As they were going up the hill to the town, they met some girls coming out to draw water, and they asked them, "Is the seer here?")

9:12 처녀들이 그들에게 대답하였다 "예, 계십니다 지금 막 저 앞으로 가셨습니다 서둘러서 가시면, 따라가서 만나실 수 있습니다 오늘 사람들이 산당에서 제사를 드리기 때문에, 그분이 방금 성읍으로 들어가셨습니다

( "He is," they answered. "He's ahead of you. Hurry now; he has just come to our town today, for the people have a sacrifice at the high place.)

9:13 그러니까 두 분께서 성읍으로 들어가시면, 그분이 식사하러 산당으로 올라가시기 전에, 틀림없이 그분을 만날 것입니다 그분이 도착할 때까지는 아무도 먹지 않습니다 그분이 제물을 축사한 다음에야 초대받은 사람들이 먹기 때문입니다 그러니 지금 올라가시면, 그분을 만날 수 있습니다"

( As soon as you enter the town, you will find him before he goes up to the high place to eat. The people will not begin eating until he comes, because he must bless the sacrifice; afterward, those who are invited will eat. Go up now; you should find him about this time.")

9:14 그들이 성읍으로 올라가 성읍 안으로 들어가서 보니, 사무엘이 마침 산당으로 올라가려고 맞은쪽에서 나오고 있었다

( They went up to the town, and as they were entering it, there was Samuel, coming toward them on his way up to the high place.)

9:15 사울이 오기 하루 전에 주님께서 사무엘에게 알리셨다

( Now the day before Saul came, the LORD had revealed this to Samuel:)

9:16 "내일 이맘때에 내가 베냐민 땅에서 온 한 사람을 너에게 보낼 것이니, 너는 그에게 기름을 부어 나의 백성, 이스라엘의 영도자로 세워라 그가 나의 백성을 블레셋 사람의 손에서 구해 낼 것이다 나의 백성이 겪는 고난을 내가 보았고, 나의 백성이 살려 달라고 울부짖는 소리를 내가 들었다"

( "About this time tomorrow I will send you a man from the land of Benjamin. Anoint him leader over my people Israel; he will deliver my people from the hand of the Philistines. I have looked upon my people, for their cry has reached me.")

9:17 사무엘이 사울을 보았을 때에, 주님께서 그에게 말씀하셨다 "이 젊은이가, 내가 너에게 말한 바로 그 사람이다 이 사람이 나의 백성을 다스릴 것이다"

( When Samuel caught sight of Saul, the LORD said to him, "This is the man I spoke to you about; he will govern my people.")

9:18 사울이 성문 안에 있는 사무엘에게 다가가서 말하였다 "선견자의 집이 어디에 있는지 알려 주십시오"

( Saul approached Samuel in the gateway and asked, "Would you please tell me where the seer's house is?")

9:19 사무엘이 사울에게 대답하였다 "바로 내가 그 선견자요 앞장 서서 산당으로 올라가시지요 두 분은 오늘 나와 함께 저녁을 듭시다 물어 보시려는 것은, 내일 아침에 다 말씀드리겠습니다 그리고 나서 두 분을 보내 드리겠습니다

( "I am the seer," Samuel replied. "Go up ahead of me to the high place, for today you are to eat with me, and in the morning I will let you go and will tell you all that is in your heart.)

9:20 사흘 전에 잃어버린 암나귀들은 이미 찾았으니, 그것은 걱정하지 마십시오 지금, 온 이스라엘 사람들의 기대가 누구에게 걸려 있는지 아십니까? 바로 그대와 그대 아버지의 온 집안입니다!"

( As for the donkeys you lost three days ago, do not worry about them; they have been found. And to whom is all the desire of Israel turned, if not to you and all your father's family?")

9:21 사울이 대답하였다 "저는 이스라엘 지파들 가운데서도 가장 작은 베냐민 지파 사람이 아닙니까? 그리고 저의 가족은 베냐민 지파의 모든 가족 가운데서도 가장 보잘것없는데, 어찌 저에게 그런 말씀을 하십니까?"

( Saul answered, "But am I not a Benjamite, from the smallest tribe of Israel, and is not my clan the least of all the clans of the tribe of Benjamin? Why do you say such a thing to me?")

9:22 사무엘은 사울과 그의 종을 데리고 방으로 들어가서, 초대받은 사람들의 윗자리에 앉혔다 거기에 모인 사람들은 서른 명쯤 되었다

( Then Samuel brought Saul and his servant into the hall and seated them at the head of those who were invited--about thirty in number.)

9:23 사무엘이 요리사에게 일렀다 "내가 자네에게 잘 간수하라고 부탁하며 맡겨 두었던 부분을 가져 오게"

( Samuel said to the cook, "Bring the piece of meat I gave you, the one I told you to lay aside.")

9:24 요리사가 넓적다리와 거기에 붙어 있는 것을 가져다가 사울 앞에 놓으니, 사무엘이 말하였다 "보십시오, 준비해 두었던 것입니다 앞에 놓고 드십시오 내가 사람들을 초청할 때부터, 지금 이렇게 드리려고 보관해 두었던 것입니다" 그래서 그 날 사울은 사무엘과 함께 먹었다

( So the cook took up the leg with what was on it and set it in front of Saul. Samuel said, "Here is what has been kept for you. Eat, because it was set aside for you for this occasion, from the time I said, 'I have invited guests.'" And Saul dined with Samuel that day.)

9:25 그들은 산당에서 내려와 성읍으로 들어갔다 침실이 지붕에 준비되어 있었으므로, 사무엘과 사울은 거기에서 누워서 잤다

( After they came down from the high place to the town, Samuel talked with Saul on the roof of his house.)

사무엘이 사울을 지도자로 세우다

9:26 다음날 동틀 무렵에, 사무엘이 지붕에서 사울을 깨웠다 "일어나십시오 바래다 드리겠습니다" 사울이 일어나니, 사무엘은 사울과 함께 바깥으로 나갔다

( They rose about daybreak and Samuel called to Saul on the roof, "Get ready, and I will send you on your way." When Saul got ready, he and Samuel went outside together.)

9:27 성읍 끝에 이르렀을 때에, 사무엘이 사울에게 "저 종을 앞에 먼저 보내십시오" 하고 말하였다 그 종이 한참 앞서서 가니, 사무엘이 다시 사울에게 "내가 하나님의 말씀을 들려 드리겠으니, 잠깐 서 계십시오" 하고 말하였다

( As they were going down to the edge of the town, Samuel said to Saul, "Tell the servant to go on ahead of us"--and the servant did so--"but you stay here awhile, so that I may give you a message from God.")

사무엘상 10장

10:1 사무엘이 기름병을 가져다가 사울의 머리에 붓고, 그에게 입을 맞춘 다음에, 이렇게 말하였다 "주님께서 그대에게 기름을 부으시어, 주님의 소유이신 이 백성을 다스릴 영도자로 세우셨습니다

( Then Samuel took a flask of oil and poured it on Saul's head and kissed him, saying, "Has not the LORD anointed you leader over his inheritance?)

10:2 오늘 나를 떠나서 가시다가 베냐민 지역 셀사에 이르시면, 라헬의 무덤 근처에서 두 사람을 만나실 터인데, 그들은, 그대의 부친이 찾으러 다니던 암나귀들은 벌써 찾았고, 부친께서는 암나귀들 걱정은 놓으셨지만, 이제 오히려 아들과 종의 일이 걱정이 되어 찾고 계신다고 말할 것입니다

( When you leave me today, you will meet two men near Rachel's tomb, at Zelzah on the border of Benjamin. They will say to you, 'The donkeys you set out to look for have been found. And now your father has stopped thinking about them and is worried about you. He is asking, "What shall I do about my son?"')

10:3 또 거기에서 더 가다가 다볼의 상수리나무에 이르면, 거기에서 하나님을 뵈려고 올라가는 세 사람을 만날 것입니다 한 사람은 염소 새끼 세 마리를 데리고 가고, 한 사람은 빵 세 덩이를 가지고 가고, 또 한 사람은 포도주 가죽부대를 하나 메고 갈 것입니다

( "Then you will go on from there until you reach the great tree of Tabor. Three men going up to God at Bethel will meet you there. One will be carrying three young goats, another three loaves of bread, and another a skin of wine.)

10:4 그들이 그대에게 안부를 묻고, 빵 두 덩이를 줄 것이니, 그것을 받으십시오

( They will greet you and offer you two loaves of bread, which you will accept from them.)

10:5 그런 다음에 그대는 하나님의 산으로 가십시오 그 곳에는 블레셋 수비대가 있습니다 그 곳을 지나 성읍으로 들어갈 때에, 거문고를 뜯고 소구를 치고 피리를 불고 수금을 뜯으면서 예배 처소에서 내려오는 예언자의 무리를 만날 것입니다 그들은 모두 춤을 추고 소리를 지르면서 예언을 하고 있을 것입니다

( "After that you will go to Gibeah of God, where there is a Philistine outpost. As you approach the town, you will meet a procession of prophets coming down from the high place with lyres, tambourines, flutes and harps being played before them, and they will be prophesying.)

10:6 그러면 그대에게도 주님의 영이 강하게 내리어, 그들과 함께 춤을 추고 소리를 지르면서 예언을 할 것이며, 그대는 전혀 딴 사람으로 변할 것입니다

( The Spirit of the LORD will come upon you in power, and you will prophesy with them; and you will be changed into a different person.)

10:7 이런 일들이 그대에게 나타나거든, 하나님이 함께 계시는 증거이니, 하나님이 인도하시는 대로 따라 하십시오

( Once these signs are fulfilled, do whatever your hand finds to do, for God is with you.)

10:8 그대는 나보다 먼저 길갈로 내려가십시오 그러면 나도 뒤따라 그대에게 내려가서 번제와 화목제물을 드릴 것이니, 내가 갈 때까지 이레 동안 기다려 주십시오 그 때에 가서 하셔야 할 일을 알려 드리겠습니다"

( "Go down ahead of me to Gilgal. I will surely come down to you to sacrifice burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, but you must wait seven days until I come to you and tell you what you are to do.")

10:9 사울이 사무엘에게서 떠나려고 몸을 돌이켰을 때에, 하나님이 사울에게 새 마음을 주셨다 그리고 사무엘이 말한 그 모든 증거들이 그 날로 다 나타났다

( As Saul turned to leave Samuel, God changed Saul's heart, and all these signs were fulfilled that day.)

10:10 사울이 종과 함께 산에 이르자, 예언자의 무리가 그를 맞아 주었다 그 때에 하나님의 영이 그에게 세차게 내리니, 사울이 그들과 함께, 춤추며 소리를 지르면서 예언을 하였다

( When they arrived at Gibeah, a procession of prophets met him; the Spirit of God came upon him in power, and he joined in their prophesying.)

10:11 이전부터 그를 알던 모든 사람들이 보니, 사울이 과연 예언자들과 함께 그렇게 예언을 하는 것이 아닌가! 그래서 그들이 "기스의 아들에게 무슨 일이 일어났는가? 사울이 예언자가 되었는가?" 하고 서로 말하였다

( When all those who had formerly known him saw him prophesying with the prophets, they asked each other, "What is this that has happened to the son of Kish? Is Saul also among the prophets?")

10:12 거기에 사는 한 사람이 "다른 예언자들은 어떻습니까? 그들의 아버지가 누구라고 생각하십니까?" 하고 물었으므로, "사울마저도 예언자가 되었는가?" 하는 속담이 생겼다

( A man who lived there answered, "And who is their father?" So it became a saying: "Is Saul also among the prophets?")

10:13 사울은 예언을 마치고 나서, 산당으로 갔다

( After Saul stopped prophesying, he went to the high place.)

10:14 사울의 삼촌이 사울과 그 종에게 "어디를 갔었느냐?" 하고 물었다 사울이 대답하였다 "암나귀들을 찾으러 갔지만, 찾을 수가 없어서 사무엘에게 갔었습니다"

( Now Saul's uncle asked him and his servant, "Where have you been?" "Looking for the donkeys," he said. "But when we saw they were not to be found, we went to Samuel.")

10:15 사울의 삼촌이 또 말하였다 "사무엘이 너희에게 무슨 말씀을 하시더냐? 나에게 말하여라"

( Saul's uncle said, "Tell me what Samuel said to you.")

10:16 사울이 삼촌에게 말하였다 "암나귀들은 이미 찾았다고 우리에게 일러주셨습니다" 그러나 사무엘이 사울 자신에게 왕이 될 것이라고 말한 것은, 그에게 알려 주지 않았다

( Saul replied, "He assured us that the donkeys had been found." But he did not tell his uncle what Samuel had said about the kingship.)

사울이 왕으로 뽑히다

10:17 사무엘이 백성을 미스바로 불러 주님 앞에 모아 놓고,

( Samuel summoned the people of Israel to the LORD at Mizpah)

10:18 이스라엘 자손에게 하나님이 하신 말씀을 전하였다 "나 주 이스라엘의 하나님이 말한다 내가 이스라엘을 이집트에서 데리고 올라왔고, 내가 너희를 이집트 사람의 손과, 너희를 학대하던 모든 나라의 손에서 건져 내었다

( and said to them, "This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: 'I brought Israel up out of Egypt, and I delivered you from the power of Egypt and all the kingdoms that oppressed you.')

10:19 그러나 오늘날 너희는, 너희를 모든 환난과 고난 속에서 건져 낸 너희 하나님을 버리고, 너희에게 왕을 세워 달라고 나에게 요구하였다 좋다, 이제 너희는 지파와 집안별로, 나 주 앞에 나와 서거라!"

( But you have now rejected your God, who saves you out of all your calamities and distresses. And you have said, 'No, set a king over us.' So now present yourselves before the LORD by your tribes and clans.")

10:20 사무엘이 이스라엘의 모든 지파를 앞으로 나오게 하니, 주님께서 베냐민 지파를 뽑으셨다

( When Samuel brought all the tribes of Israel near, the tribe of Benjamin was chosen.)

10:21 사무엘이 베냐민 지파를 각 집안별로 앞으로 나오게 하니, 마드리의 집안이 뽑혔고, 마드리의 집안 남자들을 앞으로 나오게 하니, 기스의 아들 사울이 뽑혔다 사람들이 그를 찾았지만, 보이지 않았다

( Then he brought forward the tribe of Benjamin, clan by clan, and Matri's clan was chosen. Finally Saul son of Kish was chosen. But when they looked for him, he was not to be found.)

10:22 그래서 사람들이 다시 주님께 여쭈어 보았다 "그 사람이 여기에 와 있습니까?" 주님께서 말씀하셨다 "그는 짐짝 사이에 숨어 있다"

( So they inquired further of the LORD, "Has the man come here yet?" And the LORD said, "Yes, he has hidden himself among the baggage.")

10:23 사람들이 달려가 거기에서 그를 데리고 나왔다 그가 사람들 가운데 섰는데, 다른 사람들보다 어깨 위만큼은 더 커 보였다

( They ran and brought him out, and as he stood among the people he was a head taller than any of the others.)

10:24 사무엘이 온 백성에게 말하였다 "주님께서 뽑으신 이 사람을 보아라 온 백성 가운데 이만한 인물이 없다" 그러자 온 백성이 환호성을 지르며 "임금님 만세!" 하고 외쳤다

( Samuel said to all the people, "Do you see the man the LORD has chosen? There is no one like him among all the people." Then the people shouted, "Long live the king!")

10:25 사무엘이 왕의 제도를 백성에게 알려 준 다음, 그것을 책에 써서 주님 앞에 보관하여 두고, 온 백성을 각자의 집으로 돌아가게 하였다

( Samuel explained to the people the regulations of the kingship. He wrote them down on a scroll and deposited it before the LORD. Then Samuel dismissed the people, each to his own home.)

10:26 사울이 기브아에 있는 자기의 집으로 돌아갈 때에, 하나님께 감동을 받은 용감한 사람들이 사울을 따라갔다

( Saul also went to his home in Gibeah, accompanied by valiant men whose hearts God had touched.)

10:27 그러나 몇몇 불량배들은 "이런 사람이 어떻게 우리를 구할 수 있겠느냐?" 하고 떠들면서 그를 업신여기고, 그에게 예물도 바치지 않았다 그러나 사울은 못 들은 척하였다

( But some troublemakers said, "How can this fellow save us?" They despised him and brought him no gifts. But Saul kept silent.)

사무엘상 11장

사울이 암몬 족속을 물리치다

11:1 암몬 사람 나하스가 올라와서, 길르앗의 야베스를 포위하였다 그러자 야베스 사람들이 모두 나하스에게 "우리와 조약을 맺읍시다 우리가 당신을 섬기겠습니다" 하고 제안하였다

( Nahash the Ammonite went up and besieged Jabesh Gilead. And all the men of Jabesh said to him, "Make a treaty with us, and we will be subject to you.")

11:2 그러나 암몬 사람 나하스는 "내가 너희의 오른쪽 눈을 모조리 빼겠다 온 이스라엘을 이같이 모욕하는 조건에서만 너희와 조약을 맺겠다" 하고 대답하였다

( But Nahash the Ammonite replied, "I will make a treaty with you only on the condition that I gouge out the right eye of every one of you and so bring disgrace on all Israel.")

11:3 야베스 장로들이 또 그에게 제안하였다 "우리에게 이레 동안만 말미를 주셔서, 우리가 이스라엘 모든 지역으로 전령들을 보내도록 하여 주십시오 우리를 구하여 줄 사람이 아무도 없으면, 우리가 항복하겠습니다"

( The elders of Jabesh said to him, "Give us seven days so we can send messengers throughout Israel; if no one comes to rescue us, we will surrender to you.")

11:4 전령들이, 사울이 살고 있는 기브아에 가서 백성에게 그 사실을 알리니, 백성들이 모두 큰소리로 울었다

( When the messengers came to Gibeah of Saul and reported these terms to the people, they all wept aloud.)

11:5 마침 사울이 밭에서 소를 몰고 오다가, 무슨 일이 일어났기에 백성이 울고 있느냐고 물었다 사람들은 야베스에서 온 전령들이 한 말을 그에게 일러주었다

( Just then Saul was returning from the fields, behind his oxen, and he asked, "What is wrong with the people? Why are they weeping?" Then they repeated to him what the men of Jabesh had said.)

11:6 이 말을 듣고 있을 때에, 사울에게 하나님의 영이 세차게 내리니, 그가 무섭게 분노를 터뜨렸다

( When Saul heard their words, the Spirit of God came upon him in power, and he burned with anger.)

11:7 사울은 겨릿소 두 마리를 잡아서 여러 토막으로 자른 다음에, 그것을 전령들에게 나누어 주고, 이스라엘 모든 지역으로 말을 전하라고 보냈다 "누구든지 사울과 사무엘을 따라나서지 않으면, 그 집의 소들도 이런 꼴을 당할 것이다" 주님께서 온 백성을 두려움에 사로잡히게 하시니, 모두 하나같이 그를 따라나섰다

( He took a pair of oxen, cut them into pieces, and sent the pieces by messengers throughout Israel, proclaiming, "This is what will be done to the oxen of anyone who does not follow Saul and Samuel." Then the terror of the LORD fell on the people, and they turned out as one man.)

11:8 사울이 그들을 베섹에 모으고 수를 세어 보니, 이스라엘에서 삼십만 명이 왔고 유다에서 삼만 명이 왔다

( When Saul mustered them at Bezek, the men of Israel numbered three hundred thousand and the men of Judah thirty thousand.)

11:9 기브아 사람들이 야베스에서 온 전령들에게 말하였다 "길르앗의 야베스 사람들에게 가서, 내일 햇볕이 뜨겁게 내리쬘 때쯤에는 구출될 것이라고 전하여라" 전령들이 돌아가서 야베스 사람들에게 소식을 전하니, 그들이 모두 기뻐하였다

( They told the messengers who had come, "Say to the men of Jabesh Gilead, 'By the time the sun is hot tomorrow, you will be delivered.'" When the messengers went and reported this to the men of Jabesh, they were elated.)

11:10 그래서 야베스 사람들이 암몬 사람들에게 회답하였다 "우리가 내일 당신들에게 나아가 항복하겠습니다 그 때 가서는 우리에게 하고 싶은 대로 하시오"

( They said to the Ammonites, "Tomorrow we will surrender to you, and you can do to us whatever seems good to you.")

11:11 다음날 아침 일찍 사울은 군인들을 세 부대로 나누어 가지고, 새벽녘에 적진 한복판으로 들어가서, 날이 한창 뜨거울 때까지 암몬 사람들을 쳐서 죽였다 살아 남은 사람들은 다 흩어져서, 두 사람도 함께 있는 일이 없었다

( The next day Saul separated his men into three divisions; during the last watch of the night they broke into the camp of the Ammonites and slaughtered them until the heat of the day. Those who survived were scattered, so that no two of them were left together.)

사무엘이 길갈에서 사울을 왕으로 세우다

11:12 백성이 사무엘에게 와서 말하였다 "사울이 어떻게 우리의 왕이 될 수 있느냐고 떠들던 자들이 누구입니까? 그런 자들을 내주십시오 우리가 그들을 쳐서 죽이겠습니다"

( The people then said to Samuel, "Who was it that asked, 'Shall Saul reign over us?' Bring these men to us and we will put them to death.")

11:13 그러자 사울이 나서서 말하였다 "오늘은 주님께서 이스라엘 백성을 구원하여 주신 날이오 오늘은 사람을 죽이지 못하오"

( But Saul said, "No one shall be put to death today, for this day the LORD has rescued Israel.")

11:14 사무엘이 백성들에게 말하였다 "우리가 길갈로 가서, 사울이 우리의 왕이라는 것을 거기에서 새롭게 선포합시다"

( Then Samuel said to the people, "Come, let us go to Gilgal and there reaffirm the kingship.")

11:15 그래서 온 백성이 길갈로 가서 그 곳 길갈에 계시는 주님 앞에서 사울을 왕으로 세웠다 그들은 거기에서 짐승을 잡아서 주님께 화목제물로 바쳤다 거기에서 사울과 모든 이스라엘 사람들이 함께 크게 기뻐하였다

( So all the people went to Gilgal and confirmed Saul as king in the presence of the LORD. There they sacrificed fellowship offerings before the LORD, and Saul and all the Israelites held a great celebration.)

사무엘의 고별사

12:1 사무엘이 온 이스라엘 백성에게 말하였다 "나는 당신들이 나에게 요청한 것을 다 들어 주어서, 백성을 다스릴 왕을 세웠습니다

( Samuel said to all Israel, "I have listened to everything you said to me and have set a king over you.)

12:2 그러니 이제부터는 왕이 백성들을 인도할 것입니다 나는 이제 늙어서 머리가 희게 세었고, 나의 아들들이 이렇게 당신들과 함께 있습니다 나는 젊어서부터 오늘까지 당신들을 지도하여 왔습니다

( Now you have a king as your leader. As for me, I am old and gray, and my sons are here with you. I have been your leader from my youth until this day.)

12:3 내가 여기 있으니, 주님 앞에서, 그리고 주님께서 기름부어 세우신 왕 앞에서, 나를 고발할 일이 있으면 하십시오 내가 누구의 소를 빼앗은 일이 있습니까? 내가 누구의 나귀를 빼앗은 일이 있습니까? 내가 누구를 속인 일이 있습니까? 누구를 억압한 일이 있습니까? 내가 누구한테서 뇌물을 받고 눈감아 준 일이 있습니까? 그런 일이 있다면, 나를 고발하십시오 내가 당신들에게 갚겠습니다"

( Here I stand. Testify against me in the presence of the LORD and his anointed. Whose ox have I taken? Whose donkey have I taken? Whom have I cheated? Whom have I oppressed? From whose hand have I accepted a bribe to make me shut my eyes? If I have done any of these, I will make it right.")

12:4 이스라엘 백성이 대답하였다 "우리를 속이시거나 억압하신 적이 없습니다 누구에게서든지 무엇 하나 빼앗으신 적도 없습니다"

( "You have not cheated or oppressed us," they replied. "You have not taken anything from anyone's hand.")

12:5 사무엘이 그들에게 말하였다 "당신들이 나에게서 아무런 잘못도 찾지 못한 것에 대하여 오늘 주님께서 증인이 되셨고, 주님께서 기름부어 세우신 왕도 증인이 되셨습니다" 그러자 온 백성이 "그렇습니다 주님께서 우리의 증인이 되셨습니다!" 하고 대답하였다

( Samuel said to them, "The LORD is witness against you, and also his anointed is witness this day, that you have not found anything in my hand." "He is witness," they said.)

12:6 사무엘이 백성에게 말하였다 "모세와 아론을 세우시고, 당신들의 조상을 이집트 땅에서 데리고 올라오신 분이 바로 주님이십니다

( Then Samuel said to the people, "It is the LORD who appointed Moses and Aaron and brought your forefathers up out of Egypt.)

12:7 그러니 그대로 서 있으십시오 내가, 주님께서 당신들과 당신들의 조상을 구원하려고 하신 그 의로운 일을 주님 앞에서 증거로 제시하고자 합니다

( Now then, stand here, because I am going to confront you with evidence before the LORD as to all the righteous acts performed by the LORD for you and your fathers.)

12:8 야곱이 가족을 데리고 이집트로 내려간 다음에, （이집트 사람들이 야곱의 가족을 억압할 때에,） 그들은 주님께 매달려 살려 달라고 부르짖었습니다 그래서 주님께서는 모세와 아론을 보내셨고, 조상을 이집트에서 인도해 내셨고, 그들을 이 땅에 정착시키셨습니다

( "After Jacob entered Egypt, they cried to the LORD for help, and the LORD sent Moses and Aaron, who brought your forefathers out of Egypt and settled them in this place.)

12:9 그런데도 백성은 주 그들의 하나님을 잊어버리고 말았습니다 그래서 주님께서는 조상들을 블레셋 사람과 모압 왕과 하솔 왕 야빈의 군사령관인 시스라에게 넘기시고, 우리 조상들을 쳐서 정복하게 하셨습니다

( "But they forgot the LORD their God; so he sold them into the hand of Sisera, the commander of the army of Hazor, and into the hands of the Philistines and the king of Moab, who fought against them.)

12:10 조상들은 주님께 살려 달라고 부르짖으면서 '우리는 주님을 버리고, 바알 신들과 아스다롯 여신들을 섬기는 죄를 지었습니다 이제 원수들에게서 우리를 건져 주시기 바랍니다 그러면 우리가 주님만을 섬기겠습니다' 하고 호소하였습니다

( They cried out to the LORD and said, 'We have sinned; we have forsaken the LORD and served the Baals and the Ashtoreths. But now deliver us from the hands of our enemies, and we will serve you.')

12:11 주님께서 이 호소를 들으시고 여룹바알과 베단과 입다와 나 사무엘을 보내셔서, 사방으로 에워싼 원수들에게서 우리를 건져 주셔서, 안전하게 살 수 있도록 하셨습니다

( Then the LORD sent Jerub-Baal, Barak, Jephthah and Samuel, and he delivered you from the hands of your enemies on every side, so that you lived securely.)

12:12 그런데도 암몬 왕 나하스가 우리를 치러 오자, 주 하나님이 우리의 왕인데도, 그것을 보았을 때에 당신들은, '안 되겠습니다 우리를 다스릴 왕이 꼭 있어야 하겠습니다' 하고 나에게 말하였습니다

( "But when you saw that Nahash king of the Ammonites was moving against you, you said to me, 'No, we want a king to rule over us'--even though the LORD your God was your king.)

12:13 이제 당신들이 뽑은 왕, 당신들이 요구한 왕이 여기에 있습니다 주님께서 주신 왕이 여기에 있습니다

( Now here is the king you have chosen, the one you asked for; see, the LORD has set a king over you.)

12:14 만일 당신들이 주님을 두려워하여 그분만을 섬기며, 그분에게 순종하여 주님의 명령을 거역하지 않으며, 당신들이나 당신들을 다스리는 왕이 다 같이 주 하나님을 따라 산다면, 모든 일이 잘 될 것입니다

( If you fear the LORD and serve and obey him and do not rebel against his commands, and if both you and the king who reigns over you follow the LORD your God--good!)

12:15 그러나 주님께 순종하지 않고 주님의 명령을 거역한다면, 주님께서 손을 들어 조상들을 치신 것처럼, 당신들을 쳐서 멸망시키실 것입니다

( But if you do not obey the LORD, and if you rebel against his commands, his hand will be against you, as it was against your fathers.)

12:16 당신들은 그대로 서서, 주님께서 이제 곧 하실 큰 일을 눈으로 직접 보십시오

( "Now then, stand still and see this great thing the LORD is about to do before your eyes!)

12:17 지금은 밀을 거두어들이는 때가 아닙니까? 그렇더라도 내가 주님께 아뢰면, 주님께서 천둥을 일으키시고 비를 내리실 것입니다 그러면 왕을 요구한 것이, 주님께서 보시기에 얼마나 큰 죄악이었는지를 밝히 알게 될 것입니다"

( Is it not wheat harvest now? I will call upon the LORD to send thunder and rain. And you will realize what an evil thing you did in the eyes of the LORD when you asked for a king.")

12:18 사무엘이 주님께 아뢰니, 바로 그 날로 주님께서 천둥을 보내시고, 비를 내리셨다 온 백성이 주님과 사무엘을 매우 두려워하였다

( Then Samuel called upon the LORD, and that same day the LORD sent thunder and rain. So all the people stood in awe of the LORD and of Samuel.)

12:19 모든 백성이 사무엘에게 간청하였다 "종들을 생각하시고 주 하나님께 기도하셔서, 우리가 죽지 않게 해주십시오 우리가 우리의 모든 죄에 왕을 구하는 악을 더하였습니다"

( The people all said to Samuel, "Pray to the LORD your God for your servants so that we will not die, for we have added to all our other sins the evil of asking for a king.")

12:20 사무엘이 백성에게 말하였다 "두려워하지 마십시오! 당신들이 이 모든 악행을 저지른 것은 사실이나, 이제부터는 주님을 따르는 길에서 벗어나지 말고, 마음을 다 바쳐 주님을 섬기십시오!

( "Do not be afraid," Samuel replied. "You have done all this evil; yet do not turn away from the LORD, but serve the LORD with all your heart.)

12:21 도움을 주지도 못하고 구원하지도 못하는 쓸데없는 우상에게 반하여, 그것을 따르는 일이 없도록 하십시오 그것들은 헛된 것입니다

( Do not turn away after useless idols. They can do you no good, nor can they rescue you, because they are useless.)

12:22 주님께서는 당신들을 기꺼이 자기의 백성으로 삼아 도와 주시기로 하셨기 때문에, 주님께서는 자기의 귀한 명예를 지키기 위해서라도, 자기의 백성을 버리지 않으실 것입니다

( For the sake of his great name the LORD will not reject his people, because the LORD was pleased to make you his own.)

12:23 나는 당신들이 잘 되도록 기도할 것입니다 내가 기도하는 일을 그친다면, 그것은 내가 하나님께 죄를 짓는 것입니다 그런 일은 없을 것입니다 오히려 나는, 당신들이 가장 선하고 가장 바른길로 가도록 가르치겠습니다

( As for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the LORD by failing to pray for you. And I will teach you the way that is good and right.)

12:24 당신들은 주님만을 두려워하며, 마음을 다 바쳐서 진실하게 그분만을 섬기십시오 주님께서 당신들을 생각하시고 얼마나 놀라운 일들을 하셨는가를 기억하십시오

( But be sure to fear the LORD and serve him faithfully with all your heart; consider what great things he has done for you.)

12:25 만일 당신들이 여전히 악한 행동을 한다면, 당신들도 망하고 왕도 망할 것입니다"

( Yet if you persist in doing evil, both you and your king will be swept away.")
